What do I need to bring?

Just you and a suit! All Things Swim is proud to offer a boutique style swim experience. Swim diapers, towels, snacks, drinks, wi-fi, and toiletries are provided for our swimmers and their families.

How many swim lessons will it take?

Every child is different. Progress is made from the very first lesson and will continue as long as they stay in practice.  Speak with Coach Emily to discuss any expectations and goals you might have for your child and she will be honest and frank about typical timelines once she has been in the water with your swimmer to evaluate them.

How long are the swim lessons?

30 minutes.

In many cases with children under 3 the lessons may be cut short and as the child progresses and becomes more comfortable they will be able to continue longer.  30 minutes is a long time for small children and we try not to overwhelm them with too much information, too many repetitions, or extending the amount of time your child is upset or crying.

We also offer breaks, play time, and hugs and snuggles to create a nurturing environment to ease any nervousness, fear, and separation anxiety.

What is the inclement weather policy?

We are an indoor pool facility and safe from the elements.  The only time lessons will be cancelled due to weather is if we lose power or if it is not safe to travel during a storm.

Do I have to get in the water with my child?

No.  We encourage swimmers to get adjusted to their instructor from the very first lesson even if there are tears.  If several lessons go by and the child is still having a difficult time a parent might be asked to come prepared to get in.

What if my child cries or is afraid?

This is absolutely normal even if your child loves the water.  Please be prepared for the possibility of tears. We do not teach aggressively but please understand that your child is going to a new place, with a new person, and it is not play time. The tears pass usually in a few lessons at the most and the swimmer is still learning in spite of the emotions.  If this is difficult for the swimmer or the parent, the parent might be asked to wait in the family room until the lesson is over.

We believe that the relationship between the instructor and your swimmer should form right away and the swim instructor should quickly become your child’s source of comfort.

Should I feed my child before a swim lesson?

No.

When a child is in lessons there is the possibility of drinking the water or coughing on it as they learn to catch and hold their breath.

Eat something light and soft no less than 2 hours before a lesson and just water to drink. Drinking too much water or swallowing too much air are possibilities in swim lessons and we don’t want a child to vomit.  Limiting food and beverage intake will reduce the chances but vomit is always a possibility.
